Peter’s “Ocean-Lake Combo Double-Wash” (in his Favorite Raw Denim)

Hello, my name is Peter. Some of you might already know me – I’m the dude who tries to do everything he can for you in customer support at Denimio! It’s a great pleasure to share my experience, my story, and my wonderful jeans with all of you!!

My adventure with raw denim started few years ago in Japan. I have always loved Japan. Their culture, their language, their craftsmanship and perfectionism have never ceased to amaze me.

“While living in Japan, I remember going to second hand stores all the time searching for beautifully faded denim.”

I was lucky enough to find a job in Japan, working in the cosmetics industry. Yes, this might not be as interesting as denim,  but it was a dream come true to live in Japan for me. I loved every moment living there and it allowed me to fully develop my  Japanese language skills.

While living in Japan, I remember going to second hand stores all the time searching for beautifully faded denim. There were lots and lots of vintage jeans both from America and Japan. Back then, raw denim was not as popular as it was today. The first raw denim I fell in love with was Evisu’s No. 1 2000T. The quality, construction, creativity and the Seagulls (sorry but I like them!) totally blew my mind.

However, the jeans that mean the most to me and which this post is really about, are my current pair of Pure Blue Japan XX-012. I chose this pair because after seeing the evo of the Pure Blue Japan’s XX-012 Green Leaf Contest Jeans, I was sold. That, plus I love the slim fit and the double deep indigo with the famous PBJ slub is sick!

“I wanted to take a little piece of home with me; A little of that crystal-clear ocean in every fiber of my favorite jeans.”

peter-003I know many of you can relate, but being a huge denim fan makes it hard to fade pairs sometimes – I have so many pairs in rotation at any given time – I love my Studio d’Artisan Jeans, my Flat Heads or my ONI’s – and I recently personally experienced TCB, an amazing brand that delivers top notch jeans at an amazing price! On top of that, since my job is sitting all day – serving all of you in the Live Chat and Customer Support of Denimio! – I don’t get to move enough to get these faded like some of those incredible contest winners. So, fading progress on my Pure Blue Japan’s XX-012 might not be of the highest contrast but they’ve become my favorite pair.

“…he decided to do an ocean wash and did not rinse his jeans with fresh water after that. The result: permanent fishy/ocean smell.”

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to go back to my childhood hometown. For those of you who don’t know, I’m from the Philippines – A country filled with many beautiful islands and beaches. I’m lucky to have grown up in a small island surrounded by beautiful beaches. I don’t go back home often, so this time I wanted to take a little piece of home with me; A little of that crystal-clear ocean in every fiber of my favorite jeans. So you guessed it, I did an epic, full-body ocean wash.

Right after I got out of the water, however, I remembered the lesson learned from a Denimio customer: he decided to do an ocean wash and did not rinse his jeans with fresh water after that. The result: permanent fishy/ocean smell. So I thought “well, why not take it up a notch.”  I decided to double down – from the ocean to a lake nearby, in what I like to think is the first ever “ocean-lake combo double-wash.”

“I don’t think the “ocean-lake combo double-wash” will ever really become a thing, but if you ever get the chance, DO IT.”

After the lake, I hung them out to dry and I felt like my jeans had a new soul. One with a little bit of my home and childhood in them… and without the fishy smell. I don’t think the “ocean-lake combo double-wash” will ever really become a thing, but if you ever get the chance, DO IT.

I look forward to helping you guys finding the perfect pair of raw denim on denimio.com so that you can have your own amazing experiences! Stay raw 🙂
