It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a denimhead in possession of a enough raw Japanese selvedge denim, must be in want of a leather bag to accompany all his indigo dyed treasures.
“…why would you wear an old gym bag when you could get a leather bag that is made in Japan, made from the best leathers out there and made to last you a lifetime, while aging to perfection.”
These are, as we all know, the first words of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice – well… sort of… The gist of it remains true, though! We all have a lot of premium denim and at some stage we just want the right leather goods to match it. Because Pure Blue Japan, the Flat Head, ONI, Studio d’Artisan, Full Count and the likes are the crop of the cream for denim, why would you wear an old gym bag when you could get a leather bag that is made in Japan, made from the best leathers out there and made to last you a lifetime, while aging to perfection.
Look no further, we’ve got you covered. As you all know we work super hard to source the best jeans for you, so we worked even harder to get you the bag you always wanted. We looked for functionality, timelessness, design and perfect construction and we found the best artisans and craftsmen for leather.

“VASCO is named after a Portuguese explorer called Vasco Da Gama. Being the first European to discover India, he succeeded in linking Europe and Asia by ocean route…”
“…from their original designs, to the first samples and producing their bags… everything is done by hand…”
VASCO is named after a Portuguese explorer called Vasco Da Gama. Being the first European to discover India, he succeeded in linking Europe and Asia by ocean route during the Age of Discovery. VASCO combines all these ideas: traveling, bringing together an urban European feel with Japanese traditions. To match Vasco da Gama’s brave and unresting spirit which reflects their devotion to craftsmanship, they felt that his name was perfect for their brand VASCO.
VASCO’ s manufacturing is based in Kōenji, Tokyo. Its unique workshop is situated in a quiet area surrounded by trees and greens with the interior imaging a vintage ship. VASCO’ s selected craftsmen work their magic here: from their original designs, to the first samples and producing their bags… everything is done by hand because their experience has showed them that no machine can match a skilled artisan’s hands. The Vasco artisans we spoke to said that they consider each piece a unique piece of art of theirs, done with as much passion as a painter would treat a canvas.
“…keep in mind that there is one artisan spending an average of 70 hours on each of these bags…”
The best part is that every craftsman possesses precise skills and taste. Unlike the usual work flow seen in most factories, there is no assembly line and everything is made to order. If you order a VASCO item at Denimio one person is in charge of the whole process from designing and sewing to the finishing touch. Your bag is really made for you.

When you encounter their products on denimio.com, you might be surprised that there is a 3-4 months lead-time for you to receive your item. But keep in mind that there is one artisan spending an average of 70 hours on each of these bags – the amount of work that goes into these items is outstanding and so is their attention to detail. Vasco prides itself in being a community of highly skilled artisans – they are a small team and since their products are highly sought after in Japan (they get featured in the legendary Clutch Magazine quite regularly), it takes a little longer to cope with the demand. That’s a good thing though, because you’ll get a perfect piece of leather-luggage that will last you a lifetime. You might go so far and compare Vasco with the Birkin Bag from Hermes, but instead of spending €10.000and waiting for a year or two, you’ll get an incredible bag within 4 months time and at a reasonable price.
One of our European costumers recently ordered a backpack from Vasco and was anxious whether waiting so long was worth it. Our costumer received his Vasco backpack last week and sent us some pictures with a comment.
“This is by far the best backpack I have ever owned. It rivals high-end European and US brands in terms of quality, but I think the design is even superior! The leather is simply sublime…”
“I don’t how else to put it. It’s a reddish brown, my favorite tone, with an almost marble-like quality. Every morning when I pack my backpack and head to the university, I am happy. Not only because it fits a 15″ MacBook, some books, stationary and my lunch (!), it simply looks like a millions bucks. Thanks to the guys from Denimio for hooking me up with this, I will definitely buy more Vasco in the future!”
There isn’ really much we could add to that. We do look forward to supply all you with their amazing products. And you can trust us, these bags will blow your mind: With their knowledge and experience of the process, they can express a “deepness” (深み), which is a sensible part and nuance which is difficult to put into words. As the Japanese spirit lives in Made in Japan products, VASCO’ s craftsmen continue to deliver world class bags and it fills us with pride to carry them and once you own a VASCO bag, you will know what deepness (深み) means.
