Big John M25G (000B) 25oz – the ultimatum release for fans of heavy denim

Heavy denim jeans are a separate and very interesting niche among the products produced by Japanese brands. Old vintage American jeans, of course, had an average standard density of 12-14OZ. The attempt to make heavy denim was the result of Japanese brands’ desire to make a distinctive and unique product.

When you first open the long-awaited parcel and take out a pair of jeans that can be placed vertically on the floor, you may be at first bewildered. You may even think that such a pair of jeans will be impossible to wear. However, very soon you realize that these jeans very quickly become comfortable and convenient and once you try a product like this you can hardly stop. Perhaps it can be compared to a “vampire bite”:)

We at Denimio are well aware of the excitement caused by each limited or anniversary release from Samurai Jeans, who are rightfully respected among heavy denim lovers. It was Samurai Jeans that developed and made popular such a trend as heavyweight denim. However, there are other brands that make a very impressive product. Today we would like to introduce you to a new release from Big John. This is a truly stunning and monumental product made from ultra high density 25OZ denim.

BIG JOHN M25G (000B) 25oz Tough Jeans selvedge denim Straight

These jeans fully express the Big John style. This manufacturer is the oldest brand producing classic jeans in Japan. You could even say that Big John is inspired not only by the history of American vintage, but also by its own history.

The focus in this release is on the extra thick 25OZ, which is very noticeably different from other manufacturers.
The jeans also have characteristic details for Big John classics and a distinctive model construction style.

Style

Big John used a straight regular fit in this model.  It can hardly be associated with the classic Japanese repros. Rather here we see a modern classic versatile jean that will pair well with a variety of clothing and footwear styles.

Considering that this release has a denim density of 25OZ, using a straight cut will be comfortable and convenient for the wearer of the jeans.

Fabric

Yes, 25OZ denim is a very high density. We’d even say it’s the “ultimate comfort boundary” for heavy denim lovers. And Big John has put a lot of effort into making this denim aesthetically distinctive, durable and comfortable.

The warp thread is rope-dyed in a very dark indigo color. This suggests the possibility of obtaining a very beautiful and contrasting fading.

The texture of this denim is relatively flat, it has nothing to do with slubby. There is perhaps a slight heterogeneity of texture, which is characteristic of shuttle loom denim.

Another important point. This denim is sanforized. That is, we are looking at jeans made of unworn denim, which has nevertheless undergone a special steam treatment and pulling through rubber rollers. This reduces the shrinkage factor. In addition, these jeans do not have a pronounced leg twist.

We can see that Big John despite the use of very dense brutal denim, took care of people who don’t always understand some of the features of hardcore classic raw denim. This makes the product more versatile.

Details

The leather patch has manufacturer branding and an indication that we have a 25OZ release in front of us.

The style of the back pockets is classic big john with distinctive cross contrast stitching.

Please note that Big John does not use a vintage style in this release, requiring authentic cotton threads and chain stitching. This is done intentionally to make the jeans as durable and practical as possible.

Here we see durable polycotton threads and lock stitch, which is totally in line with the idea behind this release – to make the jeans not only as heavy duty as possible, but also as durable as possible.

The jeans fasten with a bronze button at the waistband and have a heavy duty brass Universal zipper. Perhaps someone has a conservative view of classic jeans and believes that only the button closure should be used. In fact, the zipper is just as authentic a detail of jeans as buttons, as it has been used since the 50s.

Besides, do you remember your blue and bloody fingers when you first tried to button up your heavy jeans? The zipper closure here just makes the jeans more comfortable. Again, at the heart of this release is the comfort, practicality and versatility of the product.

Front pockets are reinforced with copper rivets. Flat rivet style is used, which Big John has been using for many years.

The classic and recognizable pink selvedge ID is used.
