We all love jeans with a saturated indigo color. This classic dark color is very beautiful and over time, acquires new shades during fading. In its classic form, the jeans painted by pure indigo (pure Indigo without additional impurities) have a saturated dark blue color. We aren’t talking about natural plant dyes, but only about the chemical method of dyeing. The pure indigo dye was developed in 1865 by German chemist Igonannom von Bauer on the basis of a synthesis of nitrobenzaldehyde and acetone.
At first glance, almost all untreated denim jeans may appear to be the same (or at least very close in color), but this is certainly not the case. First, a more concentrated or less concentrated dye can be used, giving more or less dark color to the thread. Secondly, the tint itself can be different. Special additives are often used (e.g. adding sulphides to the dye), allowing the Indigo color to acquire a slightly different hue. We will tell you about these kinds denim today.
Redcast Denim – jeans dyed in this way have a somewhat purple tint.
This is especially noticeable in bright sunlight. If you take a pair of jeans painted with classic “pure indigo” and jeans from redcast denim, then the difference will be visible. In the fading process the difference will be even more noticeable.
Greencast Denim – Indigo color in such jeans can have a slightly “greenish” hue.
To be more precise, it could be the color of the “sea wave”. Sometimes greencast denim is deliberately made lighter, other times this color will be very thick and saturated. Actually, the greenish hue can be manifested as the fading on the jeans evolves. Sometimes greencast denim is emphasized using unbleached weft thread (it can be grey or beige).
