The Japanese brand Tanuki is currently one of the most interesting manufacturers of denim clothing. Perhaps Tanuki can be referred to as a new style of Japanese denim. On the one hand, Tanuki jeans are produced by people (who prefer to remain anonymous) with a very solid experience in the denim industry. On the other hand, Tanuki jeans are noticeably different from the classics produced by well-known Japanese companies. Here we will not see a clear focus on the style of vintage American clothing. References to vintage are present only in the basic details, which have already become traditional for classic Japanese jeans. The main attention Tanuki pays to its author’s fabrics is with very interesting color and texture. This is the basis of the Tanuki brand philosophy: these are very conservative jeans in the way of production, but they are absolutely modern in their style.
A few years ago, Denimio sold a Tanuki Kusaki competition edition in 15OZ medium denim.
Here a vegetable dye derived from pomegranate peel was used, which gives a beautiful greenish tint to the weft thread. This release was very popular. Japanese denim lovers wrote to us very often with a request to repeat the release of Tanuki Kusaki series again. And we finally managed to make a collaboration with Tanuki with a heavy version of Kusaki 19,5OZ denim.
So we are happy to present you again two jeans models in this wonderful denim!
Style
This release utilizes two popular and user-friendly styles. These are the straight classic and the modern relaxed tapered fit.
TANUKI TNK101OL 19.5oz Heavy Kusaki Tanuki x Denimio Collab Regular
A straight classic. You could even say it’s the perfect straight regular fit. Not too wide and not too narrow. Jeans of this cut are wonderfully combined with different styles of clothes and shoes.
TANUKI TNK202OL 19.5oz Heavy Kusaki Tanuki x Denimio Collab High Tapered
A tapered modern cut from Tanuki. This fit has a fairly comfortable thigh width and a heavily tapered pant cut. This fit allows for a modern trendy style that looks great with sneakers. At the same time, this model will be very comfortable in the hip area.
Fabric
The new Tanuki Kusaki 19.5OZ denim is a very expressive type of denim. So if you are looking for a tight and visually expressive denim, this is exactly what we are writing about right now.
A mix of American and Australian cotton is used here. This combination allows for a good balance of comfort and softness with a pronounced texture to the denim. The warp threads are very dark. This is a very good warp for the contrasting fading of the jeans. The warp thread is colored with an extract derived from the rind of the pomegranate fruit. It is a beautiful greenish olive color that complements the dark indigo of the warp thread well.
The texture has a noticeable heterogeneity. You can see that this type of denim has its own unique character. Over time, as the jeans get fading, the texture will become even more apparent. This is exactly why we always love Tanuki denim. Selvage has a bright cobalt colored yarn woven into it. So if you wear jeans with a cuff, the Tanuki Kusaki release is unlikely to go unnoticed:)
Details
As in Tanuki Kusaki’s debut release we see a large image of Tanuki the raccoon dog on the patch. This mythological creature will charmingly bring you good luck and beautiful fading to your jeans:) The picture on the patch is printed with green paint, which emphasizes the color of the weft thread. By the way, this time the patch is made of light leather. By the way, if you look closely, you can see the image of Denimio beatle:)
The back pockets are quite large and spacious. It is very convenient for those who prefer to carry a modern smartphone exactly in the back pocket.
The lower part of the pocket has a special lining. This allows to strengthen the construction and increase the practicality of the pocket design.
While the style of these jeans is not the classic Japanese repros, the top corners of the back pockets are traditionally reinforced with hidden copper rivets.
Tanuki branding is embroidered on the side in the form of two stripes in the colors of the Japanese flag. The lower wide stripe symbolizes history, tradition and craftsmanship, while the upper stripe symbolizes the modern development of manufacturing traditions.
The front of the buttons depicts the mythological Tanuki raccoon dog. The style of the image itself is stylized under an ancient Japanese coin.
The copper rivets are done in a classic vintage style that reminds us of the history of denim style.
The front pockets are made from durable herringbone fabric, just like many classic Tanuki jean releases.
As a nice bonus, you get a gift bag with the symbolism of this wonderful collaboration.
