Aesthetics & History of Denim

Why Japanese denim? You love it because of its fabrics, cuts, and/or quality?

Talking about Japanese denim, we can’t ignore the beautiful history of the denim itself. I love the quality of the denim that Japanese makers can come up with where it’s made. Japan as a culture has every technological advancements known to man, but  they are still aware of the old ways and the essence of the fabric, of the traditional values and ways to make the best denim aesthetics ever. The brands’ histories are also one of my main reasons for getting into Japanese denim.

Jeans & Fades Identity

What’s your indigo and jeans identity? Favorite brands?

Brand favorite? I love The Flat Head, Iron Heart, Pure Blue Japan, Studio d’Artisan, Real Mccoy, Tanuki, Momotaro, and last but not least, ONI Denim. Almost all Japanese denim ranks highly with me. For fading: it’s a super long term commitment. Honestly, I love ultra dark contrasts to my fades since they really show the character of the wearer and the jeans itself. But the brands that really make the most impact on me is The Flat Head. Because of brands like the ones named above, I got to know so many denimheads all over the world.
As a Japanese denim lover myself, the texture I’m looking for in denim is, of course, the slubby-ness. My favorite jeans fit is slim tapered and slim straight. I tend to not wash my jeans too often because I love watching the jeans’ evolution as time goes by. If I have to really wash it, I wash it when I’ve seen some fades developed, which takes 6 to 8 months.
